The artist behind the stages.
N. Gallist
I am Nils Gallist — Tech Artist and digital artist working where the performing arts meet real-time technology: virtual stages, immersive installations and digitally mediated theater.
Since 2021 I have been Tech Artist of the artist collective minus.Eins, creating digital theater for stages across Europe — from the Berliner Festspiele and the XRT Stage at Staatstheater Nürnberg to Staatstheater Essen, Staatstheater Linz and Staatstheater Köln. Our production Pan's Lab was nominated for the renowned Der Faust Preis 2022.
Since 2024 I teach and research as Assistant Professor at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria in Hagenberg, and I am a PhD candidate in Fine Arts at Université Paris 8. My research moves through expanded animation, digital theater and immersive technologies, and virtual stages — including four years in the Creative Europe project Play-On! — New Storytelling with Immersive Technologies.
The Metaverse remains a chapter of my practice: since 2019 I have created and published over 120 environments across the major platforms, and I have worked as 3D Metaverse Artist for the Ars Electronica Festival since 2020.
